The Tantra of Somatic Healing

For most people on the planet, when a challenging life situation presents itself, and emotional activation arises within the body and mind, there is a closing down to the experience, with a natural tendency to repress and get away from the difficult feelings.

For the true tantra practitioner (and I’m not talking about the sexual practices, although these practices will 100% make you a better lover), there is a courageous willingness to open to whatever emotional experiences may be arising within the body-mind.

When a challenge arises in life, instead of projecting it out into the outside world, we become immensely curious about what it is that is arising within our own inner experience.

We move into it, fully facing and feeling whatever emotions are arising within the body, without allowing those emotions to rise up and create a negative, victim story in the mind.

It is the negative story in the mind that causes all our suffering, not the emotions themselves.

What we can learn to do is bring the full extent of our attention down into the pure energy of the emotion, wherever it may be within the body.

We breathe into it, feel it, hold it, allow it to express through sound and movement if it wants to.

We don’t move away from it up into the mind, not even a millimetre.

We stay fully conscious, fully present down in the body.

In doing this, we may find that the contracted energy of emotion, which has been activated in the body, starts to open, expand, and morph, and is transmuted into a profound quality of Being.

This is the path of the alchemist, and by far the most effective way of coming into a deep-felt understanding of the true meaning of Tantra.

When we truly open to our internal experience in this way, and fully meet all the movements of emotion and energy within our own system without allowing it to pull us into suffering in the mind, we are put in touch with the most wonderful sense of intimacy.

The intimacy of Being.

An intimacy which is not dependent in any way upon anyone else.

It is the meeting of the masculine and feminine principles within our own consciousness.

The lovemaking of existence is birthed into our conscious experience.

And then, of course, this inner lovemaking flows into the rest of our lives, as we see and experience the so-called other in a completely new light.

The way we touch, dance, sing, make love, walk, eat, play music, exercise, and any other activity you can think of takes on a completely new life.

One infused with intimacy and sensuality.

But don’t take my word for it. Come to know this within your own experience.

The doorway is very simple.

Have the courage to feel and hold the emotions that you may have spent your whole life trying to get away from.
