The School Of Embodiment presents
Open To Transformation a Bioenergetics Journey
This 6-week course in Stroud, will take you on a deeply experiential journey of healing and inner transformation, using the tools of bioenergetics and body-based therapy.
Dear friends,
Bioenergetics is a powerful body-based therapy that supports the release of repressed emotions and chronic tension from the body.
This process touches on what so many of us deeply seek – freedom from uncomfortable feelings and the acceptance of our innate aliveness and vitality.
In this 6-week program, we are invited to feel more fully: the discomfort of buried emotions, and the joy of simply being alive.
We embrace it all at the level of feeling and experience.
This is the basic yet profound philosophy of this practice: to feel is to be alive.
And you may be surprised—even shocked—at how little we truly feel, compared to the vast depth of sensation, intuition, and experience available when we think less and feel more.
This is the essence of the training: a journey into deeper levels and layers of feeling.
Bioenergetics can be described as exactly that—a training in how to feel.
It is practiced through three simple elements:
- Stretching – Holding the body in specific stretches to allow it to open.
- Breathing – Deep, open-mouth breathing to access the repressed emotions stored within the body.
- Feeling – With the body open and sensation accessible, we deliberately feel into what arises, exploring what is there to be felt.
Each week consists of physical, bioenergetic exercises that aid the release of repressed feelings and support us in entering our body in a more deep and fundamental way.
If this work resonates with you, I hope you join the course and I look forward to seeing you in the group room soon.
With love
Alex Watson

Here’s whats included in the course:
Week 1: The Key to Healing
This week we will explore the core principle behind a successful bioenergetic practice. Together, we’ll work with foundational postures of bioenergetics and examine how they activate the body’s natural healing mechanisms. These mechanisms are often left dormant, as most traditional healing approaches tend to rely solely on the mind to ‘fix’ the issues.

Week 2. The Most Important Aspect of this Work: Feeling
You’ll hear me return to this point throughout weeks 1 to 6, as I don’t believe it can be emphasized enough. We are creatures of habit, and perhaps the most widespread habit in the modern world is learning not to feel. In particular, Western society encourages us to develop a sharp, solution-oriented mind — and while this has led to many great achievements, it also brings limitations. In the realm of healing, the focus is not on thinking, but on feeling.

Week 3. The Grounding Channel (the importance of grounding!)
Grounding may be a word that feels unfamiliar to you, or perhaps one you’ve heard countless times before. Either way, the concept is essential — and the experience even more so. A central aspect of bioenergetics is grounding the body’s energy into the pelvis, legs, and feet, and ultimately into the earth. Most of us carry an excess of energy in the upper body, particularly in the mind, as we’ve been conditioned to think excessively and feel only rarely.

Week 4. The Central Channel (belly-throat connection)
Another key aspect of bioenergetics is expression, which arises from the central channel. Because we are often unwilling to fully feel — and therefore unwilling to face life directly — we tend to fall into repression, the opposite of expression. This week, we will work with a spontaneous cathartic method designed to support you in releasing emotions that may have been holding you back.

Week 5. The Heart-Mind Channel (vulnerability)
The most commonly exercised channel in therapy and healing is the heart–mind channel. This usually involves sharing, vulnerability, and conceptual understanding. A modality without this element is incomplete — yet I would also argue that a modality without the other two channels is equally incomplete. This channel is often what we picture when we think of “talking to a therapist” to create change. When we allow ourselves to open and connect from a place of honesty and tenderness by activating the resonance of the heart from somatic practice.

Week 6. A Successful Bioenergetic Practice: putting it all together
In our final week, I will support you in weaving everything together. We will revisit and summarise each of the three channels, and you’ll be guided through a series of bioenergetic exercises that strengthen the healthy functioning of these aspects of both our physical and emotional worlds.
I have been practicing for nearly a decade, and these methods continue to take me deeper. The practice is never static — it is always fresh, always new, and continually reveals profound layers of our reality to those that wish to keep looking.
